Farzana and friends (5N1)- Netball Senior

Jing Ting-(2E1) Netballer
Sean Yee Cheng Yeng (2E1) -AVA Club .

Every Wednesday in East Spring Secondary School, most of the students are busy with their CCAs and their schoolwork. There are various CCAs held on Wednesdays like Netball, Badminton, Band and also our CCA, Journalism Club.Want to know more about the CCAs? Then let's find out! After interviewing three students from various CCAs, i got to know more about the CCAs that they are busy in.

Our first interviewee is Sean( 2e1), the last photo, from AVA club. The CCA was held every Wednesday from 3.30pm t0 5.00pm.He and his CCA friends were busy checking the sound system in the hall. Other than that, he will also be testing the gallery equipment in the gallery. As what was told by him, his CCA members will always test every visualisers in every class to test if there is any problem with it.Sometimes they also play games if they are done with the checking of the equipments. He says he gets to find out about wires and things related to it during the CCA.
He also enjoys the CCA as he got to learn a lot about technology during the CCA.

Our next interviewee is Ong Jing Ting (2e1), the second last photo, from Netball. As what was told by her, she was training how to flick her hand to shoot the ball in the net.She likes training as she gets to exercise and also spend time together with her team mates. Sometimes training was hard as competitions and matches are coming, so they have to put their heads in the game and do their very best. They also train for 3 hours on Wednesdays and Fridays. At the end of the training, they will always encourage each other to never give up and always give their 100% to win.
Some senoirs from Netball who were the best strikers and defenders then shared about their achievements with me. One of the defenders was Farzana form 5n1.She said that the school's biggest achievement was getting 4th in East Zone Match 2010. Training for 3hrs straight on weekdays and sometimes on weekends was all worth is with their constant effort to win.
She also said that everyone in the CCA have to have passion in netball as passion is the most important thing that makes you keep moving forward and to not give up.
So all of you out there, make sure you have passion when you do something you like and you may achieve something great that you never expected.

History of the olympics,
Olympic games is a major international event featuring summer and winter sports, where thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. Originally, the ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 5th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee in 1894. It continued since then.

The celebration of the Games includes many rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

There are over 13,000 athletes that compete at the summer and Winter Olympics in 33 different sports and almost 400 events. The first, second, and third place finishers in each event receive either a gold, silver or bronze Olympic medals, respectively.Every two years, the Olympics and the athletes get to participate in the sport they are good at. The Games also gives a major opportunity for the host city and country to promote and showcase themselves to the world, like the Beijing Olympic games held in China, in 2008.

YOG

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are an international multi-sport event held every four years in staggered summer and winter events. The Youth Olympic Games will feature athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.
CYCLING;}
I got a chance to see one of the events which is cycling. We would be seeing the Mountain Bike event at the Tampines Bike Park. Curious and exited to see the event, i found information about the event.
Cycling is divided into four main events for Singapore: BMX, Mountain bike, Time Trail and Road Race, testing the speed and endurance of each athlete. Each team from various countries consists of three Junior Men and one Junior Woman. The three Junior men completing one of the three main events( BMX, Mountain Bike and Time Trial) each and one Junior Woman completing all the three main events. All Junior men also have to compete in the Road Race.
I hope that Singapore will get chance to win!

RACIAL HARMONY DAY

The first thing that comes into your mind when you hear the word 'Racial harmony day' is most probably that the students and teachers would come to school in their traditional costumes right? Well, in ESSS most of the students did come to school in their traditional costumes. The traditional costumes came in different colours that shows the different races in Singapore. Some student also sell different types of traditional food and some even performed at the carnival held in the atrium. Seeing them having so much fun, I decided to interview one of the students who where involved in the carnival. She is Jia Hui from class 1N2

What do you think this shows?

-It shows the Chinese culture and the food they eat

What do you want to know more about other people's culture?

-About their lifestyle like about how what they eat, what they wear, and their religion, what they believe in.

Did you wear anything traditional costume today?

-No I did not

If you did, what would you wear then?

-I would wear the baju kurung. I want to see how I look like in it

What did you like about today?

-I liked that I get to communicate with other people of different races .And get to see the different costumes they wear.

What do you think can be improved?

-I think that the venue should be changed to the hall or inside the canteen so people could really see the booths

CLIMATE CHANGE- FIRST ARTICLE

My first article yeahhhh!!

Ever wondered what's happening to the world today? Look at the picture above. Poor girl. I bet she is just walking in the heavy snow to school. This is what the season was like in Beijing. I love the cold but in Beijing, it is just too cold. Usually in Beijing the snow is not that heavy but due to climate change, the snow covered the city centre. Also due to the heavy snow, 120 flights had been delayed. The snow is also affecting other regions in China. Imagine if you are there, you may be freezing right? And you would want this to stop. Other than what is happening in china, there are many other countries which face severe climate changes. Like in the North Pole where all the polar bears and the seals live. Temperature there started to increase causing the ice to melt. This creatures need to live in cold places; they might extinct if we continue wasting the stuff we have. So let's save the earth. We can help by doing little things like the 3 'R'S, REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE. As more rubbish is created, the ozone layer would get thinner and thinner due to the burning of rubbish. And also due to the smoke given out by vehicles and factories. So I say we stop all this and make our home a better place. As this is our only home.
